Jr. Apostolic (Visitation Academy in STL)

As the youngest child, with a seven year age gap between me and my older sibiling, I've never been able to understand what hardships my parents had to face when they first moved to the U.S. back in 1988. Thanks to Oasis I've been able to see these hardships and also recognized how lucky I am. For me, to see people working hard even in the worst conditions, is very a inspirational and humbling experience. Not only has my experience at Oasis helped me develop a deeper understanding of my parents and immigrants alike, but I have also seen that language is just a barrier; where words are useless, actions take their place.

We were so blessed to be able to serve over 200 families from 22 nations in 2009. We delivered 98 couches, 75 beds, 154 tables, 77 dressers, 102 lamps, 75 TVs, 91 boxes of dishes and over 400 bags of clothes were given. For Christmas 30 refugees families were adopted by Americans families. 100 other refugee families were given presents and food boxes. We had 42 English Students, 29 computer class students. 6,300 volunteer hours were given.
Thank you to all who gave their time, furniture, clothes, finances and talents. We could not do it without you.
Sincerely in the Name of Jesus,
Mark & Joani Akers

Two men from Iraq came. one has been here 20 days, the other Abdi three months. We were trying to tell them about Oasis, and got a paper to write the phone number. Then Abdi pulled out a paper from his pocket, saying someone had given him this certain phone number and told him to go to this place....it turned out to... be Oasis! :) So, hopefully they will call soon and get hooked up..they need furniture.See More

Dale said he was so moved ~ they felt like they traveled around the world in an hour and a half. They visited with Iraqis, Sudanese and Nepalese. He felt like the Lord impressed upon him that t...hey should invite one of the families over for dinner.
